The rubric is long because it is a checklist
GCU rubrics run to several pages and that length is an advantage: nothing is hidden. Every criterion states what earns each band, so a paper can be assembled against it row by row and checked before submission the same way.
The work here goes row by row in the rubric's own order and vocabulary. It reads as mechanical on the page and it is exactly what the instrument was designed to reward.
Protect yourself in the CLC in week one
Collaborative learning community work goes wrong late and is defended early. Your portion goes into the shared document in the first week under your own name, which creates a timestamped record of what you contributed and when.
Instructors can generally see who added what and when. That record does the arguing for you at the point where it matters, and it is created by the simple act of putting your section in early under your own name.
None of this requires more hours than you already have. It requires knowing, in week one, which single assignment is carrying the term, and then treating every week as an opportunity to put one more competency of it beyond doubt. Students who work that way describe the benchmark as the easiest thing they did; students who meet it in week seven describe it as the hardest.

A claim made in week six with nothing behind it is a very different conversation from a document that already shows the answer.
Which formatting instructions should I follow?
The ones attached to that specific assignment, not a general style guide and not what worked in your last course. Programs state their expectations closely, down to headings and how sources are presented, and markers apply them uniformly across a cohort. This is the only category on a rubric that needs no knowledge at all, which makes losing it particularly expensive.
